The ASA Academic and Professional Affairs Program (APAP) advances the place of sociology in colleges and universities; strengthens departments and their programs; engenders effective communication and collaboration with sociology departments; and encourages the best practices in education, training, and teaching. We seek to provide services for those engaged in the teaching and practice of sociology. Teaching Sociology, Published by ASA, this quarterly journal publishes articles, notes, and reviews intended to be helpful to the discipline's teachers. Articles range from experimental studies of teaching and learning to broad, synthetic essays on pedagogically important issues. Notes focus on specific teaching issues or techniques.
Contexts, Published by ASA, this quarterly journal seeks to apply new knowledge, stimulate fresh thinking, and disseminate important information produced by the discipline. The hallmarks of Contexts are accessibility, broad appeal, and timeliness. By design, it is not a technical journal, but a magazine for diverse readers who wish to be current about social science knowledge, emerging trends, and their relevance.
