Section on Altruism, Morality and Social Solidarity Call for Awards Nominations


The Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity Section is pleased to announce the following calls for 2014 award nominations:


Distinguished Career Award

The Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity Section of the ASA is seeking nominations for the 2014 Distinguished Career Award. This award is given annually to a person who has made a number of significant contributions to the study of altruism, morality, and/or social solidarity over an extended period of time. It is intended to recognize a senior scholar’s cumulative achievements. Nominations should include a brief description of the career contributions that make the candidate deserving of the award. Please send nominations by January 15, 2014 to Jane Piliavin, sub-committee Chair, at jpiliavi@ssc.wisc.edu

Outstanding Published Book Award

The Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity Section of the ASA is seeking nominations for the 2014 Outstanding Published Book Award. This award is given annually to the author(s) of a theoretical analysis, research monograph, or reader published in the last five years (2009-2013) that increases knowledge and understanding of altruism, morality, and/or social solidarity. Nominations must include the full reference of the book, including the ISBN number, contact information on the publisher, and a brief statement regarding the merits of the book. Please send nominations by January 15, 2014 to Larry Nichols, sub-committee Chair, at Larry.Nichols@mail.wvu.edu


Outstanding Published Article Award

The Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity Section of the ASA is seeking nominations for the 2014 Outstanding Published Article Award. This award is given annually to the author(s) of a theoretical or research article published in the last three years (2010-2013) that increases knowledge and understanding of altruism, morality, and/or social solidarity. Nominations must include a PDF copy of the article and a brief statement regarding the merits of the article. Please send materials by February 15, 2014 to Wesley Longhofer, sub-committee Chair, at wesley.longhofer@emory.edu


Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award

The Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity Section of the ASA is seeking nominations for the 2014 Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award. This award is given annually to the author(s) of a theoretical or research paper that increases knowledge and understanding of altruism, morality, and/or social solidarity and that has been (a) presented at a regional, national, or international professional meeting, or (b) submitted for publication in the two  preceding calendar years (2012-2013). Authors of eligible papers must be graduate students at the time of the paper submission. Multiple authored papers are eligible for the award if all authors are graduate students. Please send materials by March 1, 2014 to Wesley Longhofer, sub-committee Chair, at  wesley.longhofer@emory.edu
