Graduate Student Paper

Section members may nominate any work (published or unpublished), written by someone who is enrolled as a graduate student in sociology at the time of submission. Self-nominations are welcome. Authors must be members of the Body and Embodiment Section. Send a nominating letter, including a description of the paper and its significance to sociology of the body and embodiment, along with an electronic copy of the paper to each member of the prize committee. Papers that are not accompanied by a nomination letter will not be considered for the prize. The deadline for receipt of nominations and articles is February 14 2014. Individuals may submit to one award only (Best Publication Award or Graduate Student Best Paper Award), not both.

Best Publication on the Body and Embodiment

The section on Body and Embodiment invites submissions for the Best Publication on the Body and Embodiment Award. The 2014 award will be for best book; books must have been published between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2013. Self-nominations are welcome as are co-authored works. To be considered for this competition, all nominees must be dues-paying members of the section (which requires ASA membership) for the year 2014. All section members are eligible. To nominate a book for this award: 1) Please send a letter via email explaining how the book makes a significant contribution to the sociology of body and embodiment to the Committee’s Chair, Sarah Jane Brubaker (sbrubaker@vcu.edu), and 2) notify the book publisher to send copies of the book to the Chair and each of the committee members. Nomination letters and book copies must be received by the award committee no later than February 14, 2014. Late submissions will not be accepted (no exceptions). Individuals may submit to one award only (Best Publication Award OR Graduate Student Best Paper Award).
