This website was prepared by Caroline Hodges Persell and Jennifer Gerdes of New York University, with technical web assistance from Jonathan Kelly.  There was a great deal of input from members of the American Sociological Association (ASA) Task Force and the ASA generously granted permission to reprint articles from their journals, Teaching Sociology and American Sociological Review and to include exercises from such Teaching Resources publications as 81 Techniques for Teaching and Innovative Techniques for Teaching Sociological Concepts.

The website is part of a larger project, “Developing a Model National Curriculum for Introduction to Sociology,” supported by a Collaborative Research Grant (DUE-0442836) to Caroline Hodges Persell and Barbara Schneider from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Course, Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) division.  The help of Project Officer, Myles G. Boylan, is gratefully acknowledged.  The information and ideas presented in this website are the responsibility of the creators and do not necessarily reflect those of the NSF.

In addition to those listed above, many other people helped with this project, including Dominick Bagnato, Antonio Mateiro, Kathryn May Pfeiffer, Michael Chavez Reilly, Maude Shepard, and Ali Syed.

More information on how the sources were identified and the criteria used to select them is available.
