Call for Submissions

The online portal is now closed for submissions.

In addition to paper/extended abstract submissions, proposals will be accepted for courses, workshops, preconferences, the Sociology in Practice Settings Symposium, and the Teaching and Learning Symposium.

Participation Policies

  • Individuals may not be listed on more than two sessions on the program. This includes all participant roles. A participant is anyone listed as an author, presenter, presider/table presider, discussant, panelist, moderator, leader, or any similar substantive role on the program. Session organizers and mentors are exempt from this policy unless they appear on the same session in another role. Participants who appear on more than two sessions must decide on which sessions to participate and inform the session organizer of the session from which they wish to withdraw and [email protected] promptly.
  • All participants on the Annual Meeting program must register for the meeting. Participants who do not pre-register may be removed from the program. A participant is anyone listed as an author, mentor, presenter, presider/table presider, discussant, panelist, moderator, leader, or any similar substantive role on the program. For multiple-authored papers, co-authors who are not presenting and who will not be attending the Annual Meeting are not required to register.
  • Individuals are not required to hold an ASA membership to submit a proposal or register for the Annual Meeting. Individuals do need an ASA account to submit and/or register. If you do not have an ASA account, you may create one here. Contact [email protected] for questions about creating an ASA account.
  • Complimentary registration may be granted to an individual who 1. would not normally attend the meeting, 2. is invited to present or participate on a scheduled session (persons making their own submission for consideration are not eligible), 3. works outside the discipline/field, and 4. is not an ASA member or ever held an ASA membership. You can request a complimentary registration for a qualified presenter by emailing [email protected].

Diversity

Much of the vitality of the ASA flows from its diverse membership. With this in mind, it is the policy of the ASA to include people of color, women, sociologists from small institutions or who work in government, business, and other applied settings, and international scholars in all of its programmatic activities and in the business of the Association. It is crucially important that organizers work to create panels that reflect these principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.
