ASA Virtual Mini-Conference
“Reimaging the Future of Work”
January 30-31, 2025
Last year, the ASA Council approved a series of exciting recommendations from the ASA Annual Meeting Redesign Committee which were designed to make our meeting delivery and distribution of time and space more affordable, accessible, and environmentally friendly. One decision Council made was to pilot test a virtual mini-conference, and we are pleased to announce that we will be offering this pilot on January 30-31, 2025.
The ASA Virtual Mini-Conference (VMC), will share the theme of the 2025 Annual Meeting, “Reimagining the Future of Work.” Over two days of programming from 11:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Eastern, the Virtual Mini-Conference (VMC) will offer eight paper sessions, a spotlight session on the future of sociology, and two book forums, as well as a networking event. Calls for Submissions
While everyone is welcome to submit, we especially encourage submissions from those who are not able to participate in the 2025 Annual Meeting in Chicago in August. Thank you in advance for helping to make this an engaging event. Read calls.
Submission Policies
- Submitters may elect to submit either full papers (15-35 pages, double spaced) or extended abstracts (3-5 pages, double spaced). Accepted extended abstract submitters are required to upload a complete paper at least one month before the conference.
- Submitters are allowed only one submission.
- All participants on the program must register for the conference. A participant is anyone listed as a presenting author, author, presenter, presider, discussant, panelist, moderator, or any similar substantive role on the program. For multiple-authored papers, non-presenting authors (if thusly noted during submission) and who will not be attending the conference are not required to register.
- Presenting and non-presenting authors (if applicable) must be accurately reflected in the submission.
- Submissions must reflect original work or major developments in previously reported work. Papers are NOT eligible if 1. They have been presented previously at ASA or other professional meeting, 2. Published prior to the meeting or accepted for publication before being submitted, or 3. Modified in only secondary respects after presentation or publication.
How to Submit
The online portal will open for submissions on June 10, 2024. The deadline to submit will be 11:59 p.m. Eastern on July 11, 2024. Submitters should prepare the following information and files prior to starting the online submission process.
- Paper Title (15 words or less).
- Description (250 words or less).
- Institutional affiliations and email addresses for all co-authors. Presenting and non-presenting authors must be entered as such.
- Paper (15-35 pages) or extended abstract (3-5 pages) converted to a PDF file stored locally and ready for uploading. If necessary, special tables/charts in Excel or PowerPoint can be uploaded as a separate Supporting File to accompany the paper.
All submissions must be made via the online portal. The online forms will guide you through the steps required to submit your proposal. You will have one hour to complete your submission. The system will log you out after one hour of inactivity. Any unsaved work will be lost.
- Go to the online portal. Log in using your ASA username and password.
- Under the Submitter Menu, select Submit or Edit a Proposal.
- Follow the system prompts to enter the information listed above.
Confirmation of Proposal Submission
All electronic proposal submissions will receive an email confirmation from [email protected]. Please save the confirmation email for future reference. If you do not immediately receive your confirmation email, please check your junk or spam folder. Contact [email protected] if you do not receive an email confirmation of your submission within 12 hours.
Acceptance Notification
You can expect to receive an acceptance or decline email for each proposal you submitted in September.
