Best Practices for Virtual Program Reviews (January 2021)
The COVID-19 pandemic, and resulting moves to online instruction, increase the likelihood that future program reviews in sociology will be conducted without campus site visits, as Virtual Program Reviews. Sociology departments and programs may find that they need to have program reviews conducted remotely. In this document, the ASA Program Reviewers and Consultants (PRC) discussed the advantages and disadvantages of these types of reviews.
About Off-Site Consultation
As the name implies, an off-site consultation takes place primarily through phone conversations, web-based video conferencing and document exchange. The professional consultation is designed to support a specific project or activity within a department, program, or division. The length of the consultation is negotiated by the consultant and the hiring institution and depends on the nature of the project or activity.
Examples of projects or activities include: development of an assessment plan; curriculum revision; or the development of a new major, graduate program, or certificate. Off-site consultations cannot include mediating departmental or institutional conflicts, or acting as an advisor on personnel decisions.
Fees and Expenses
Payment for services is negotiated between the consultant and the institution.
